The tax will improve air quality No studies show tax referendum projects would improve congestion or air quality. In the absence of smart growth planning, adding capacity is counter-productive.
40% for transit, guaranteed Transit funding is actually much less. The 40% "guarantee" only applies to the initial $2.8B, requires NVTA approval, and is dependent on federal matching funds.

Opponents to the tax are providing misinformation Our positions are based on published reports & public documents.
The referendum is all about smart growth The region's leading smart growth, environmental, & bicycling orgs. oppose it.
The tax is good for Metro Only 5% is allocated to Metro's urgent maintenance and rail car needs. Metro needs $6.2 billion for these needs but the sales tax allocates only $250 million over 20 years, just $12.5 million per year.

Tell Us What these Projects Will Really Cost
The sales tax would raise $5 billion to start new projects but it would not pay to finish them. They have not disclosed how much these projects will cost to complete, but it could be $15 to $20 billion. Where would the money come from? A future tax increase?

Show Us That This Will Really Cut Traffic Congestion
There has been no analysis whether this set of projects will really reduce traffic congestion. Because of the lack of growth management and better planning we expect it will make traffic worse.

Tell Us Why Transit in the I-95 Corridor Receives Only About 5% of the Funding
VRE and bus transit in the I-95 Corridor appear to receive only about 5% of the earmarked funding, despite their great track record and the need for these services. Improved transit from Prince William should be our number one priority.

Tell Us Why the 234 Bypass North Into Loudoun is a Top Priority for this Money
Based on past studies, a bypass in this area does nothing to help commuters on I-66 and I-95. Instead it would increase development and traffic.
